Creating Monochromatic Color Schemes

by MyVinylDesigner 24. July 2009 06:29

Monochrome means "one color"... so in a monochromatic color scheme, one color is highlighted through different values (lightness or darkness) and intensity (brightness or dullness). An example would include the combination of various shades of blacks and grays on a black or gray surface.

Our most stunning monochromatic color combos, with or without second color overlays include:

dark gray vinyl ..... black surface
light gray vinyl ..... white or dark gray surface
tan vinyl ..... light or dark creme surface
silver vinyl* ..... light gray or white surface
beige vinyl ..... light or dark creme surface
frosted vinyl ..... mirrored surface
creme vinyl .... slightly darker taupe surface

*Any same-color combination works well if the values, intensity and hues are similar. The metallic Oracal 631 colors are soft and velvety looking with a matte finish

EXAMPLE #1
In this project, black vinyl was placed on a dark gray surface, with a second overlay of vinyl popping out in white. The subtle variation adds depth, warmth, and a quiet strength to the monogram. Imagine this technique on the wall alone without an overlay. Beautiful effect!

EXAMPLE #2
In this project, tan vinyl is placed on a creme-colored wall. The subtle variation creates a soft, warm feel for the vinyl project. A powerful, yet subtle way, to express the most important messages in your home. Gorgeous!

Most Popular Vinyl Colors

by MyVinylDesigner 11. July 2009 05:31
When it comes to color, we go nuts! There are SO many beautiful variations one can create with the present Oracal 631 vinyl color palette and so we plan to dedicate our next few design blogs to color and its combinations.

ORACAL 631 COLOR SWATCHES

We have found that customers generally ask for black, beige (creme), brown (chocolate brown), light brown (tan), and dark red for general home decor. Dark pink, soft pink, lime green, white, signal yellow, and traffic blue are generally the top color choices for children's rooms.

We also really like to design with dark grey, light grey, silver, copper, and gold. Can't wait to share more.

Helping Customers to Hang Vinyl Straight

by MyVinylDesigner 3. July 2009 05:25
So your customer enthusiastically takes her vinyl home and hangs it crooked on the wall. Do you offer to replace it free, replace at a partial expense, or what?

If you have retailed your vinyl in the appropriate price range, you will have a cushion to work with. Our thoughts:

1- Remember that little acts of kindness always help your business in the long run. Most customers feel bad about asking for replacements. Offer to replace the order at no charge ... or if the order is being shipped, ask the customer to pay just for shipping.

2- If your customers are local, offer an installation service. If people know your services are free over a certain amount (like $85-$100), they'll generally buy more vinyl to get that service.

3- Determine to do installations on a particular day of the week. Let the customer know that you'd be happy to help them install it "next Wednesday" or "next Thursday". Don't be willing to drop everything to help at that moment. Hanging vinyl isn't a quick-to-do job and it isn't a life emergency. Safeguard your schedule so that you can help without resentment. Most customers understand.

4- Customers generally only make this mistake once ... so look at this opportunity as a one-time chance to show them what exceptional customer service you offer.

5- Send scrap vinyl with first-time orders so that customers can practice hanging. Cut out chunks of messed-up vinyl orders, overlaid with transfer tape, and set the chunks aside to give out as needed.

6- Consider using the following tools when the order is finished:

Email or print and mail some instructions ... http://www.myvinyldesigner.com/Products/vinyl-application-tips.aspx

7- Add an extra line or brackets to the order before it is cut so that customers can have more concrete guides for alignment. An example:

8- If the order is larger than usual, suggest cutting the order in strips, as shown in this video ...http://sites.google.com/site/myvinylsupplier/
