Contents of the "Starter Package"

by MyVinylDesigner 30. September 2010 14:35

"Do the master sets in the Starter Package include the add-on for each set?  And, do you have plans of adding a second starter set with the other five masters?"

Unfortunately, the Starter Package does not include the add-on pages.  It is meant to be the basics for what you need to get started ... then you can add the add-on lots as your business grows.  Once we release masters 9 and 10, we will most likely create a second CD, but we are not sure when that will be.

If you're looking to start a vinyl business, the starter package, along with some stick figures and a couple of alphabets will get you going nicely.

"What is the Starter Package?"

Our Vector Art for the Home CD is affectionately known as the "Starter Package."  It is a digital compilation of premade sayings, scriptures, quotes, growth charts, clock faces, etc., sprinkled with a few fun clip art images ... it's quite unlike any other vector art package you've seen!  It includes our first five 87-design master collections, complete with editable PDF catalogs, blank catalog pages for your own designs, and web-safe jpgs for marketing ... basically a turn-key vinyl business package.  We even added our embellishments collection as a bonus!

To see all the designs a little bit closer, click the links below:

Getting Every Design on our Website

by MyVinylDesigner 27. September 2010 19:38

"I am interested in purchasing a full package of all the designs you offer on your site.  How can I do this?"

First of all, we are extremely flattered that you love our vector artwork.  A humble thank you.

Perhaps the best way to purchase all of the designs on our website is to get a little at a time.  We do not offer a CD that houses all of the designs on our site, simply because our designs and collections are ever growing.    However, we try to offer great options for our customers wishing to purchase large lots:  http://www.myvinyldesigner.com/blog/post/Growing-Your-Collections.aspx

We have our
Starter Package,  which houses our first five master collections and embellishment collection.  Once we release the master collections 9 and 10, we will create a second starter package CD.  We also offer mini collections, specialty collections, alphabets, and other packages.

The avenue that we use for introducing new designs is through "add-on page" lots.  Each master and specialty collection has add-on pages, so that customers can grow their collections as time, interest, and resources allow.  Here is a
sample of the master and add-on pages in our home collection (or collection 4)

Also, we regularly have sales, contests, and promos to help customers buld their collections.  Be sure to follow us on facebook for all the details.  Also, be sure to subscribe to our emails in your account on the website.

Making Vector Designs

by MyVinylDesigner 4. April 2010 22:18

HOW "VECTORIZING" WORKS

In the digital imaging world, there are two families ..... the RASTER formats and the VECTOR formats. The rasters are the images that can be seen digitally, like the JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG, etc.  The vectors are the images that are created with vector points for cutting, engraving, laser cutting, etc. like the AI, EPS, SVG, GSD, etc.  Rasters are solely viewable files, and cannot be enlarged without becoming pixelated. Vectors can be resized without loosing quality, but are not viewable outside of certain softwares.

There are many auto-tracing softwares that can convert a raster image into a vector format.  Your cutter/crafting software most likely has this built in auto-tracing feature. The process of converting formats is commonly called "vectorizing".  The higher quality rasters will allow for higher quality vectors.  The feature is excellent when you have a customer needing their logo or mascot cut in vinyl.

However, great caution should be taken when using this auto-tracing feature.  Every illustration and photograph on the worldwide web has an artist behind it.  When you use someone else's photo without their permission, you are taking something that belongs to them.  There are intellectual property rights involved.  A copyright infringement is a serious thing for photographers and graphic illustrators.  This is why our photos are small and somewhat blurry.  It's one of the ways we attempt to protect our artwork.  Don't fall into the trap of thinking that anything you see on the web is safe to recreate.  It's really easy to think that way.

Also, be wary of free vector art sites and all those who sell vector art.  Make sure all the little embellishments and graphics are their own creations, not someone else's.

Should you ever need help "vectorizing" an image for a customer, like a logo or mascot where they are the owners of the image, let us know.   We offer several services on our site.

HOW WE CREATE OUR VECTOR DESIGNS

My Vinyl Designer creates its designs and layouts in various vector softwares, including our hand drawn graphics.  No elements are ever taken from any other source.  Our trendy vector designs are optimized for superior performance and are very clean, which means that there are closed paths, no overlaps, no crossed lines, and no intersecting objects.  You'll find a whole lot of work and love for our typography and illustrative craft in our layouts.  Every My Vinyl Designer layout is an original creation.

Using the Catalogs

by MyVinylDesigner 27. January 2010 06:17

MY VINYL DESIGNER has compiled a high-quality, pleasantly designed, printable PDF catalog for each mini, master, and specialty collection.  Although the pages can be housed in any type of binding system, we like using white cardstock and top-loading sheet protectors best.  We especially like using the standard white vinyl presentation folders that come with 12 attached sheet protectors because they are slim, trim, and easy to handle and store.  We have omitted page numbers on the catalog pages so that you can arrange pages as desired.

Our catalogs are meant to offer home-based and storefront businesses more vinyl sale opportunities, as well as be a quick fingertip reference for do-it-yourselfers.  When a customer expresses an interest in a particular design, you simply determine the measurements, find the cataloged ready-to-cut vector design, cut, and presto, an instant sale!

Alternatively, you may electronically offer catalog pages to your customers on blogs and web pages.  Catalog page jpgs and downloadable PDFs accompany each collection and add-on page lot.

PS-  Our catalog pages do not open correctly in some of the earlier versions of Adobe Illustrator.  So if you wish to try a sample catalog page, let us know and we'll send you a copy.
