HOW "VECTORIZING" WORKS

In the digital imaging world, there are two families ..... the RASTER formats and the VECTOR formats. The rasters are the images that can be seen digitally, like the JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG, etc.  The vectors are the images that are created with vector points for cutting, engraving, laser cutting, etc. like the AI, EPS, SVG, GSD, etc.  Rasters are solely viewable files, and cannot be enlarged without becoming pixelated. Vectors can be resized without loosing quality, but are not viewable outside of certain softwares.

There are many auto-tracing softwares that can convert a raster image into a vector format.  Your cutter/crafting software most likely has this built in auto-tracing feature. The process of converting formats is commonly called "vectorizing".  The higher quality rasters will allow for higher quality vectors.  The feature is excellent when you have a customer needing their logo or mascot cut in vinyl.

However, great caution should be taken when using this auto-tracing feature.  Every illustration and photograph on the worldwide web has an artist behind it.  When you use someone else's photo without their permission, you are taking something that belongs to them.  There are intellectual property rights involved.  A copyright infringement is a serious thing for photographers and graphic illustrators.  This is why our photos are small and somewhat blurry.  It's one of the ways we attempt to protect our artwork.  Don't fall into the trap of thinking that anything you see on the web is safe to recreate.  It's really easy to think that way.

Also, be wary of free vector art sites and all those who sell vector art.  Make sure all the little embellishments and graphics are their own creations, not someone else's.

Should you ever need help "vectorizing" an image for a customer, like a logo or mascot where they are the owners of the image, let us know.   We offer several services on our site.

HOW WE CREATE OUR VECTOR DESIGNS

My Vinyl Designer creates its designs and layouts in various vector softwares, including our hand drawn graphics.  No elements are ever taken from any other source.  Our trendy vector designs are optimized for superior performance and are very clean, which means that there are closed paths, no overlaps, no crossed lines, and no intersecting objects.  You'll find a whole lot of work and love for our typography and illustrative craft in our layouts.  Every My Vinyl Designer layout is an original creation.
