"When doing multicolor designs such as the trees with leaves in your modern tree designs, do you deliver those in two pieces to your customer, essentially leaving it up to them to position one on surface and lining up the second, or is there a way that you can combine these two for your customer so that it can be applied in one step?"
You can offer the finished vinyl design in either way. It just depends on the level of service and time you wish to offer. Most customers do not mind overlaying two sheets of vinyl, and some feel that they get "more for their money" when they see two sheets. It also uses a little more "trunk" vinyl, if you want it preassembled, because you need the extra backing to place all the leaves.
But if you would like to offer the design pre-assembled and ready to hang, simply weed both sheets of vinyl on a large flat surface and follow these steps:
1- Overlay the transfer tape on just the leaves, squeegee and trim excess overlap.
2- With the transfer taped leaves laying top down, gently pull off the gridded backing, so that the sticky side of the vinyl is facing upward.
3- Carefully turn the transfer taped leaves over and position its sticky side on the weeded sheet of trunk backing. Press everything down. (This is where you'll need lots of extra blank backing to place the leaves.)
4- Then carefully turn everything upside down and apply transfer tape over the entire design. You will have double transfer tape in some areas, which is fine. Then the image will be ready to hang.
